Edgars Augstkalns Wins European Masters of Poker Riga 2011

Edgars Augstkalns has won the European Masters of Poker (EMOP) Riga, after defeating a field of 175 players to lift the title, and collect the €57,491 ($77,871) first place prize.

The €1,650 buy in event took place at the Royal Casino Spa & Hotel in Latvia, and came to a conclusion Sunday night as the final table of nine got underway. The remaining hopefuls included 4 Swedes, 3 Latvians, and a player from Bulgaria and Finland.

Eventually, Latvian Edgars Augstkalns got heads-up against Swedens Joakim Fredriksson, with the home favourite trailing by a 5 to 1 deficit. How

Groupe Bernard Tapie in Final Stages of Full Tilt Acquisition

Over the last few days a Subject:Poker has had a number of sources confirm that Groupe Bernard Tapie (GPT) – a French investment company interested in purchasing and taking over Full Tilt, have nearly solidified an arrangement to have all players paid back. The company has a wealth of experience, including recovering the Adidas brand, which was, at the time, behind the rest of the market.  The arrangement itself entails an agreement that was reached between the US Department of Justice and GPT, where GPT would be responsible for payment of players internationally, and the DOJ responsible for paying the US customer base.

In response to the tentative agreement, CEO Ray Bitar passed on the following email to Tiltware shareholders:

2012 Heineken Cup

Hurrah, my favourite tournament is back well, I say favourite Im also partial to the Rugby World Cup and the RBS Six Nations but as neither are gracing our screens any time soon, Ill happily settle for the Heineken Cup.

Pool 1 sees Castres Olympique do battle with Munster, Northampton Saints and the Scarlets which, by anybodys standards is the group from hell. After failing to reach the knockout stage of the Heineken Cup for the first time since Keith Earls was in nappies, Munster will be extra anxious to prove that the empire isn’t crumbling. T

Andrey Pateychuk Wins 2011 EPT San Remo

Andrey Pateychuk has triumphed at the EPT San Remo, after overcoming a field of 879 players over six days to lift the title, and collect €680,000 ($963,056) in prize money after a heads-up chop was agreed.

The Russian pro cashed in at his first live tournament back in May 2010 and reached the medias attention after placing 15th at this years WSOP Main Event for $478,174. With his latest victory in Italy, Andrey Pateychuk has now taken his career earnings to $1,489,349, to go with his $225,504 won online under the screen name aangierr.

First player to be eliminated in 8th (€63,694) was a short-stacked Kevin MacPhee, who pushed with 6-5 only to be called by Barney Boatman with Qs-7s. He
